By Maximilian Naumow — Ultrahuman Ring Pro has been my daily driver since April 2026 (see 8-week test). Oura Ring 5 tested since launch late May, 30 days parallel wear June-July 2026.

Key Findings (30-day direct comparison)

  • HRV delta between the rings: 3 ms — practically identical, both at ±5 bpm accuracy. Ring 5 has the newer sensor generation but no significant real-world lead.
  • Real battery: Ring Pro 12-14 days vs Ring 5 6-9 days. Ring 5 improved (Ring 4 was 5-8 days), but Ring Pro stays clearly ahead.
  • Price: Ring Pro €479 one-time, no subscription. Ring 5 $399-499 (~€369-475) plus €5.99/month membership for full app.
  • 5-year TCO: Ring Pro €479 vs Ring 5 €729-819. Delta €250-340 in favor of Ring Pro.
  • Where Ring 5 wins: Form factor (40% thinner, 2.8 mm), new features (Health Radar, Blood Pressure Signals, GLP-1 Insights), fitness tracking integration with phone.
  • Where Ring Pro wins: Battery, no subscription, CGM integration (Dexcom Stelo, FreeStyle Libre 3, Abbott Lingo).
  • Clear recommendation: For new buyers in 2026 → Ring Pro. For Oura holdouts with trend history → Ring 5 as a sensible upgrade.

🏆 Winner after 30 days: Ultrahuman Ring Pro for most users. Ring 5 is a technically impressive all-round leap, but the membership requirement remains the deal-breaker over 5 years.


Context: What has happened in 2026 so far

Two launches reshuffled the smart-ring market in 2026:

February 2026 — Ultrahuman Ring Pro launches with the previously unmatched 15-day battery, same sensor stack as Oura Ring 4, but no subscription. Price: €479. In the first weeks the ring gets little English-language press, but the health-data community picks it up.

May 2026 — Oura Ring 5 is announced. Oura’s answer to the Ultrahuman pressure: 40% thinner casing (2.8 mm vs 3.5 mm), new sensor generation with 12 stronger signal pathways, significantly more LEDs, new software features like Health Radar and Blood Pressure Signals. Price: $399-499. But: membership stays.

I’ve been wearing Ring Pro as my daily driver since April. Ring 5 arrived on launch day (May 28), I wore both in parallel for 30 days (Ring Pro left, Ring 5 right, same nights, same workouts).

The HRV truth — practically identical

The most important test for a smart ring used for recovery tracking: HRV. After 30 days of parallel nights (n=27 valid nights, 3 excluded for one-sided sensor errors):

  • Ring Pro Ø HRV (wake): 68 ms
  • Ring 5 Ø HRV (wake): 71 ms
  • Delta: 3 ms, practically not clinically relevant

Ring 5 shows slightly higher values on some nights — the effect of new 12 signal pathways and stronger LEDs is measurable but tiny. Both rings are at ±5 bpm accuracy versus a medical EKG chest strap (Polar H10 as reference on 3 nights).

Important for dark-skin users: The new LEDs in Ring 5 measurably improve HRV precision on darker skin tones. This is a known weakness of all optical HRV sensors — Oura addressed it specifically with Ring 5. If you’re Fitzpatrick type V/VI, Ring 5 could have a real lead here (I couldn’t test that personally).

Battery — the clearest advantage for Ring Pro

Ring 5 improved: Oura promises “a full week” (6-9 days), that matches my real measurements. From Ring 4 (5-8 days) that’s a noticeable step up.

But Ring Pro is still clearly ahead: 12-14 days in my daily use. Concretely between charge 5 (June 24, 14:00) and charge 6 (July 7, 09:00) it was 12.8 days — with normal SpO2 measurement, occasional CGM sync, daily workouts. With intensive SpO2 (nightly monitoring) Ring Pro drops to ~11 days — still better than Ring 5.

Practical daily effect: With Ring 5 I charge once a week as a Sunday-evening ritual. With Ring Pro every 2 weeks parking on the counter during a shower. Sounds marginal, isn’t — the less charging, the more wear time per week (no “forgot to put it back on” effect).

Where Ring 5 clearly wins

Honestly: Ring 5 is in multiple points the more technically impressive hardware. If you don’t decide only on TCO, weight these points:

1. Design and form factor

  • 40% thinner (2.8 mm vs 3.5 mm Ring 4, 3.4 mm Ring Pro)
  • 6 mm wide (down from 7.9 mm Ring 4) — noticeably more discreet
  • ~2.5 g weight — the lightest full-featured ring on the market
  • “Indistinguishable from a plain ring” — Oura marketing, but realistically true

2. New features Ring Pro lacks

  • Health Radar: Passive background detection of blood pressure signals, nighttime breathing, heart-rhythm anomalies. Ring 5 proactively alerts you when patterns hint at problems.
  • Blood Pressure Signals (Beta): Passive detection of possible hypertension signals via pulse-waveform analysis. Not clinically validated for diagnosis, but an early-warning layer that Ring Pro doesn’t offer.
  • GLP-1 Insights: Specifically for users on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or similar peptides. Tracks the specific metabolic markers altered by GLP-1 agonists.
  • In-app workout with phone sync: Live HR, pace, distance via the Oura app during workouts.

3. App ecosystem Whoop sync, Strava, Apple Health (full), Natural Cycles, 30+ other integrations. Ultrahuman’s app is growing but noticeably smaller.

Where Ring Pro clearly wins

3. CGM integration (unique) Dexcom Stelo, FreeStyle Libre 3, Abbott Lingo — natively in the Ultrahuman app. If you’re glucose-focused or want to try it, only Ultrahuman offers this combination. Oura reportedly plans CGM for 2027, but “plans” ≠ “has”.

4. No subscription lock-in Everything in the purchase price. No monthly nagging in the subscription center, no price hikes that can pressure you.

Decision matrix — which is yours?

Ring Pro if:

  • You’re starting fresh in 2026 without Oura trend history
  • You don’t want a subscription (short or long term)
  • You use or want to try CGM
  • Battery matters to you
  • 5-year TCO is a factor

Ring 5 if:

  • You’ve used Oura for years and want to preserve trend history
  • You want the thinnest design on the market (2.8 mm)
  • You’re interested in Health Radar / Blood Pressure Signals
  • You use GLP-1 and want the specific insights
  • You run a multi-wearable setup with Whoop/Strava/Natural Cycles
  • You have darker skin and want the new LED generation

Neither — alternative if:

Honest test limits

30 days are still short for Health Radar. Oura’s new background monitoring builds patterns over weeks. My 30-day experience is meaningful for battery, HRV, sleep, app UX — but not enough to judge whether Health Radar actually surfaces something meaningful you’d otherwise miss. That takes 3-6 months.

GLP-1 Insights not tested. I’m not on GLP-1 agonists myself. If you use Ozempic/Wegovy and want to know whether Ring 5’s specific metrics are useful: reach out, I’ll link serious test reports.

Blood Pressure Signals not clinically validated. Oura communicates that transparently — it’s a beta feature, not a diagnosis. For the utility comparison it stays a feature Ring Pro doesn’t have.

Verdict

For most users in 2026: Ultrahuman Ring Pro is the right choice. HRV on Oura level, significantly better battery, no membership trap, CGM integration as a bonus, €250-340 savings over 5 years.

Oura Ring 5 is the right choice if you (a) are already an Oura user with data history, (b) really want the new features (Health Radar, Blood Pressure), or (c) want the thinnest design on the market.
