Transparency: This blog has never owned or tested any of the Garmin devices covered here. There are no first-party measurements and no first-hand wearing experience. The article is based on Garmin’s German product pages (accessed 18 Oct 2026), a price comparison on billiger.de and the Cirqa reviews by Computer Bild and PC-WELT. Max has worn a WHOOP for years; where WHOOP appears for comparison, those are manufacturer figures. All sources are listed at the end. This article contains no affiliate links. More on methodology

Bottom line:
- You want WHOOP-style recovery and training tracking without a subscription: Cirqa. But expect months of delivery time and a shorter battery life than promised.
- You want stats and notifications on your wrist, now and cheaply: vívosmart 5.
- You already wear a Garmin watch and just want nothing on your wrist at night: Index Sleep Monitor.
No subscription for any of the three
All three bands sync with the free Garmin Connect app. Garmin explicitly markets the Cirqa as a “fitness tracker – no subscription”. The optional Garmin Connect+ costs €8.99 per month or €89.99 per year. According to Garmin you only need it for extras such as live activities, Garmin Coach training plans, the nutrition log and the AI insights of Garmin Active Intelligence.
For comparison: WHOOP doesn’t sell a device, only the membership; WHOOP One costs €199 per year according to its German membership page.
CIRQA Smart Band: the WHOOP-style band
Garmin introduced the Cirqa on 21 July 2026 as its first screenless tracker. According to the product page, heart rate, Body Battery, stress, Pulse Ox, sleep analysis with Sleep Score, HRV status, skin temperature, training readiness, training status and VO2 max all run without a subscription. Garmin lists more than 80 activity profiles; a button starts and stops a workout.
Worth knowing:
- Battery: Garmin promises up to 10 days. Computer Bild measured around 4 days, PC-WELT around 5 days.
- Delivery time: On 18 Oct 2026, all eight variants showed “ships in approx. 3–4 months” in Garmin’s German store.
- Sizes: S–M for 120 to 200 mm, L–XL for 145 to 240 mm wrist circumference. How to pick the right one is covered in Garmin Cirqa S/M or L/XL.
- No GPS and no ECG. You need your phone for routes.

vívosmart 5: the classic fitness band with a display
The vívosmart 5 is Garmin’s fitness band in the classic sense: a slim band with a display. According to Garmin, the display is 66% larger than on the vívosmart 4 and is operated via touchscreen and button. The product page lists wrist-based heart rate, Body Battery, Pulse Ox, sleep analysis with Sleep Score, stress, respiratory rate, menstrual cycle tracking and fitness age, among others.
More points per Garmin:
- Battery: up to 7 days in smartwatch mode.
- Sports: preloaded profiles for walking, running, yoga, Pilates, cardio, strength training and more; GPS only via the connected phone.
- Everyday: phone notifications, incident detection during certain outdoor activities, water rated to 5 ATM, interchangeable bands.
- Sizes: S/M for 122 to 188 mm, L for 148 to 215 mm wrist circumference.
Garmin’s vívosmart 5 product page does not list HRV status, training readiness or skin temperature. If you want WHOOP-style recovery metrics, the Cirqa is the better match. On the other hand, the vívosmart 5 ships in 1 to 3 business days from Garmin’s store and is available at retailers from €122.99 according to billiger.de.
Index Sleep Monitor: for the night only
The Index Sleep Monitor is not a daytime tracker but a sleep band for the upper arm. According to Garmin it records Sleep Score, sleep stages, HRV status, resting heart rate, skin temperature, Pulse Ox and Body Battery, has a smart vibration alarm and lasts up to 7 nights. The band is machine washable according to Garmin.
Garmin explicitly targets people who don’t want to wear their Garmin watch at night: the sleep data flows into Garmin Connect, and training metrics such as training readiness come together with a compatible watch. Sizes per Garmin: S–M for 20 to 29 cm, L–XL for 26 to 42 cm upper arm circumference. On 18 Oct 2026 it was listed as shipping in approx. 2 to 3 weeks in Garmin’s store.
What about the vívofit?
In Garmin’s German store, the “health and fitness” category only lists the vívofit jr. 3 for kids on 18 Oct 2026. The store lists no adult vívofit there. If you are looking for a Garmin fitness band for yourself, you end up with the Cirqa, the vívosmart 5 or the Index Sleep Monitor.
How accurate are the readings?
There are no independent validation studies against a sleep lab for the Cirqa yet: on 18 Oct 2026 we found no study in PubMed with “Cirqa” in its title or abstract. How older wearables perform against polysomnography is summarised in Sleep tracking and improving sleep. On the Cirqa page, Garmin points out that its smartwatches and fitness trackers are consumer fitness devices, not medical devices.
Conclusion
Garmin has three fitness bands for adults in 2026, and none needs a subscription. The Cirqa is Garmin’s answer to WHOOP, with HRV status and training readiness, but currently with 3 to 4 months of delivery time and a battery that lasted only 4 to 5 days in two German reviews. The vívosmart 5 is the cheaper band with a display, available immediately, but without the recovery metrics the Cirqa advertises. The Index Sleep Monitor is an add-on for Garmin watch wearers, not a replacement for a daytime tracker.
