Two launches reshuffled the smart-ring market in 2026:
February 2026 — Ultrahuman Ring Pro launches with a quoted 15-day battery and no subscription. Price: €479. In the first weeks the ring gets little English-language press, but the health-data community picks it up.
May 2026 — Oura Ring 5 is announced. Oura’s answer to the Ultrahuman pressure: a 40% thinner casing (2.8 mm vs 3.5 mm), a new sensor generation with additional signal pathways and more LEDs, plus new software features like Health Radar and Blood Pressure Signals. Price: $399-499. But: the membership stays.
That subscription decision is the real story of this comparison. Everything else is a spec trade.

On HRV accuracy: what can and cannot be said
The single most-asked question about these rings — “which one measures HRV more accurately?” — currently has no honest answer.
What is documented: Oura states that the Ring 5 sensor generation carries more LEDs and additional signal pathways than the Ring 4, and that this specifically improves signal quality on darker skin tones. Weak optical signal on higher Fitzpatrick types is a well-known limitation of all wrist- and finger-worn PPG sensors, so an engineering effort aimed at it is plausible and welcome.
What is not documented: any peer-reviewed or independently published validation study comparing Ring Pro and Ring 5 head-to-head against an ECG reference. Without that, a claimed millisecond-level delta between the two rings is marketing, not measurement.
Practical consequence for buyers: do not pick between these two rings on the basis of HRV precision. Pick on cost structure, battery, form factor and which app features you actually want. If you need genuinely validated beat-to-beat data — for research, for arrhythmia work, for anything clinical — use an ECG chest strap, not a ring from either brand.
Battery — the clearest spec gap
Ultrahuman quotes up to 15 days for Ring Pro. Oura quotes roughly a week for Ring 5, up from the Ring 4 specification. Real-world runtime on any optical wearable drops with continuous SpO2 sampling and frequent syncing, so expect less than the sticker number from both — but the gap between the two specs is large enough that the ranking is unlikely to flip.
Why it matters beyond convenience: charge frequency drives data completeness. A ring you take off weekly produces more gaps than one you take off fortnightly, and gaps are what ruin trend data.
Where Ring 5 leads
Ring 5 is in several respects the more ambitious hardware. If you don’t decide purely on cost, weigh these:
1. Design and form factor
- 2.8 mm thick — 40% thinner than the 3.5 mm Ring 4, and thinner than the 3.4 mm Ring Pro
- 6 mm wide (down from 7.9 mm on Ring 4) — noticeably more discreet
- ~2.5 g — the lightest full-featured ring currently on the market
2. Software features Ring Pro doesn’t have
- Health Radar: passive background detection of blood-pressure signals, nighttime breathing and heart-rhythm anomalies, with proactive alerts when patterns look unusual.
- Blood Pressure Signals (Beta): passive detection of possible hypertension signals via pulse-waveform analysis. Oura labels it beta and explicitly not diagnostic.
- GLP-1 Insights: aimed at users on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or similar peptides, tracking the metabolic markers those drugs shift.
- In-app workout with phone sync: live HR, pace and distance in the Oura app during a session.
3. App ecosystem Whoop sync, Strava, Apple Health, Natural Cycles and 30+ further integrations. Ultrahuman’s ecosystem is growing but noticeably smaller.
Where Ring Pro leads
1. Total cost of ownership The strongest argument on the Ultrahuman side, and the only one that is pure arithmetic rather than interpretation.

2. Quoted battery life — 15 days vs roughly 7, i.e. half the charge cycles.
3. CGM integration (unique in this class) Dexcom Stelo, FreeStyle Libre 3 and Abbott Lingo feed natively into the Ultrahuman app. If you want glucose data and ring data in one place, Ultrahuman is currently the only maker offering it. Oura has no CGM integration.
4. No subscription lock-in Everything is in the purchase price. No monthly line item, no exposure to future price increases on a device you already paid for.
Decision matrix — which is yours?
Ring Pro if:
- You’re starting fresh in 2026 without Oura trend history
- You don’t want a subscription, short or long term
- You use a CGM or want to try one
- Battery life and charge frequency matter to you
- 5-year cost is a real factor in the decision
Ring 5 if:
- You’ve used Oura for years and want to keep your trend history intact
- You want the thinnest ring available (2.8 mm)
- Health Radar or Blood Pressure Signals genuinely interest you
- You use a GLP-1 agonist and want the tailored insights
- You run a multi-wearable setup with Whoop/Strava/Natural Cycles

Whether Health Radar is actually useful. Oura’s background monitoring builds patterns over weeks to months. Whether it surfaces something you would otherwise have missed is a question that only long-run user reports can answer, and those don’t exist yet for a ring launched in May 2026.
Whether GLP-1 Insights are worth anything. No independent evaluation has been published.
Whether Blood Pressure Signals work. It’s a beta feature that Oura itself does not present as diagnostic. For a feature comparison it counts as something Ring Pro lacks — nothing more.

Verdict
For most buyers in 2026, Ultrahuman Ring Pro is the more rational purchase: no membership, a far better quoted battery, CGM integration as a genuine differentiator, and €250-356 less over five years.
Oura Ring 5 makes sense if you (a) are already an Oura user with data history worth preserving, (b) actually want the new feature layer, or (c) want the thinnest ring on the market.
What should not drive the decision is a claimed accuracy edge in either direction. Nobody has published the data.
